The Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU) aims to address the limited availability and variable quality of climate data critical for the net-zero transition. We applaud the efforts of the NZDPU to build a proof of concept that demonstrates the feasibility of this complex undertaking and look forward to further development of functionality and coverage as outlined in the roadmap laid out in the Climate Data Steering Committee (CDSC)’s 2022 recommendations.
As the GFANZ Principals Group, we are committed to supporting the public provision of high-quality emissions data for the NZDPU and encourage our clients or portfolio companies to also do so where appropriate. Accurate, transparent, and consistently reported emissions data for real economy companies across Scope 1, 2 and, where material and reliable, Scope 3 will help financial institutions assess climate-related risks and opportunities and respond effectively to investor needs. Better data will also enable financial institutions to develop and implement comprehensive transition plans that illustrate how the sector is financing the net-zero transition and managing the financial impacts of climate change.
