The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) Secretariat launched a consultation on its work to further refine the definitions of its transition finance strategies and support financial institutions to forecast the impact of these strategies on reducing emissions.

New partnership seeks to engage African financial institutions on climate transition planning and finance, and Dr. Timothy Afful-Koomson, Chief Climate Finance Officer of the AfDB Group, appointed as Director of the GFANZ Africa Network.

As an extension of GFANZ’s APAC Network, the Hong Kong Chapter will engage and build capacity with financial institutions in Greater China on net-zero efforts, transition planning and scaling transition finance, working with existing local sustainable finance initiatives to support further progress.

The UAE COP28 Presidency, the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), and the Institute of International Finance (IIF) co-hosted a voluntary carbon markets (VCMs) roundtable. This virtual discussion was the second in a series of events on VCMs, bringing together global market participants committed to scaling climate finance.

Getting the energy transition right in Asia will result in reduced emissions and air pollution in the region, while securing affordable energy and new green jobs.

The consultation aims to develop voluntary guidance and practical steps financial institutions can take to support the financing of the managed phaseout of coal-fired power plants.

Ahead of the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Summit in Niigata, GFANZ has announced Japan will become the first nation to host a GFANZ Country Chapter. The Chapter will open in June 2023 and will be part of the broader GFANZ Asia-Pacific (APAC) Network launched in June 2022.
